Dear Women’s Network members,
Today the RCOG has published a new data dashboard on UK gynaecology waits. A huge thank you to all our Women’s Network members who have been involved in and supported this work in particular Emma, Saschan, Katie, Gochi, Neelam and Jagbir. The dashboard provides a comprehensive visualisation of the size, scale and nature of gynaecology waits for non-cancer hospital care, bringing together a range of publicly available datasets in one place for the first time. You can access the data dashboard here.
Currently, over three quarters of a million (752,531) women across the UK are currently waiting for hospital gynaecology services. Since 2020, gynaecology waiting lists in England have grown faster each month than any other elective specialty in percentage terms and are now over double the size they were prior to the pandemic.
The RCOG in collaboration with LCP Health Analytics, has developed this data dashboard to help policy makers understand the challenge facing gynaecology services and to evidence the urgent need for action. It will also allow clinicians and patients to understand what waiting lists look like in their area so they can see how service provision in their local area compares to the national picture.
The College is calling on the UK government to deliver on their election pledges of prioritising women’s health and cutting waiting lists. We urge them to take action in their first 100 days in power and tackle gynaecology waiting lists.
Later this year, the RCOG will be publishing a full report, as a follow up to our 2022 Left too Long report. This will include survey data from over 2000 women who are currently waiting for gynaecology care and over 200 clinicians working in elective gynaecology and urogynaecology services.
We would love your support in helping us to raise awareness of the new dashboard, and to assist this we have drafted some suggested posts below.

There is a gynaecology care crisis in the UK, with over ¾ million women and people now on waiting lists for non-cancer hospital care. The RCOG has produced a new dashboard to reveal the true size, scale and nature of the crisis for the first time.
Data can be powerful in driving change and this dashboard provides evidence for the urgent need for action. The RCOG is calling on the new UK government to commit to tackling non-cancer gynaecology waiting lists and deliver on their election pledge of prioritising women’s health.
Progress can also be achieved from the ground up, and local NHS services can use the dashboard to plan for sustainable investment and transformation of gynaecology services.
